The Six Paramitas for Harmony (Harmony originates from within. I have learned when my mind is harmonious and peaceful, I can then begin forming harmonious and virtuous connections with others. Every day in our homes, at the monastery, at work, and while handling our daily activities we encounter and interact with others. After beginning to study Buddhism, I have begun to understand on a deeper level the importance of creating and maintaining a harmonious connection with others. When I encounter a situation, especially one that may present more challenges, I will often contemplate The Six Paramitas and how to practice them at each moment. I believe through contemplation and practice we can make great progress in our cultivation of creating harmonious connections with others leading to a more harmonious world. Over a year ago, I began working at a large company with many young coworkers from different backgrounds than mine. I wanted to connect with my coworkers in a meaningful way but the conversations I sometimes heard were not in accord with the precepts and my initial thought was to keep to myself. The Dharma teacher often taught that practicing Buddhism is not apart from this mundane world. How could I begin to fulfill my vow of practicing the Bodhisattva path if I am not able to make virtuous and harmonious connections with others? I have a new and meaningful life because of my opportunity to encounter Buddhism. I want to be able to share this with others so they also can have the chance to change their life. I try to practice The Six Paramitas in my daily life to guide myself and share the Buddha Dharma with others. At work, by practicing dana, I can give encouragement to others, practice good manners, offer smiles and help them with their work when the opportunity arises. Through practicing sila, I can do my work correctly, which can benefit the team. Through kshanti paramita, I practice patience in a sometimes-high stress environment in response to my own and others' different points of view and habits. Through virya, I try to practice diligently with enthusiasm at each moment to do the appropriate action, which can motivate me and the team. To be aware of the actions I must practice prajna wisdom to contemplate and apply the Buddha's teachings and have a calm, focused mind by practicing the dhyana paramita. My vows and practice on the Bodhisattva path and The Six Paramitas are the foundation to making virtuous and harmonious connections with others based on the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.) |
